4 Easy Ways To Bring More Art Into Your Life
As an artist, I have this fantasy.
No worries; it’s rated G.
Once I am finally making enough disposable income from my own work, I want to buy the work of other artists I admire, and support them too.
When you think of buying art, you usually think; large scale; hangs on the wall.
A friend of mine, has always admired one of my photos of a rose. She mentioned time and time again how she has the perfect spot over her sofa to hang it, but can’t afford to buy the size she would need. (And unfortunately, I can’t afford to give it to her for free). Again, she is thinking “art hangs on walls”.
However, there are many other easy (and probably more affordable) ways to live with art everyday. You probably don’t even realize how surrounded you are.
For instance,
You can wear it. This is probably the easiest way to live with art everyday. We have to wear clothes right? Unless your clothing is solid colors, you are walking around wearing art! An artist had a hand in creating that pattern or the art-work on your favorite t-shirt. I just bought a tropical themed bathing suit, and an artist created that fabric. From hats to shoes, go take a peek in your closet. You are probably wearing art everyday!
You can accessorize with it. Let’s face it, humans have so much stuff. And, we have to carry it with us every where we go. You have a phone, a laptop, keys, and sunglasses. You need a phone case, a laptop sleeve or bag, a key chain and a bag to carry it all around in. Not to mention, most of us walk around carrying our favorite beverage…in a jazzy cup.
You can decorate with it. Your domicile is your personal space and now more than ever, we all want our personal spaces to be cozy and express who we are. You can add throw pillows, wall tapestries, blankets, clocks, and rugs. You can set your table with placemats and napkins, and there is always the traditional wall art..posters, canvas, or framed. (check out my post on how to choose the right size art for your wall).
You can bring it on vacation. The one item I am loving right now, are beach towels. Obviously, because Summer is upon us, but seriously, I get very excited every time my new beach towels come…I’m waiting for three as we speak! Naturally, beach towels go with beach chairs, and beverage holders and bathing suits (as mentioned above).
Every pattern. Every image. Was either created by or influenced by an artist. And although I am 100% about shopping small, and local and hand-made, even the big box stores that sell posters and wall art and commercially printed pillows…those items were printed by a licensing agency that bought that work from an artist.
The above list brings about everyday opportunities to infuse your life with art. And let’s face it, we all love using it as a way of expressing ourselves as well, whether with a favorite color, image, or phrase.
Here is my challenge to you; if buying pieces of art to hang on the wall is not your vibe, see how you can bring art into your life in other ways. And I am going to challenge myself. Wall art isn’t my thing, and I am not quite making enough disposable income to support a ton of artists, but I am going to try to live out my fantasy and buy something from an artist each month.
I’ll share mine if you share yours!!
Each month I will share what I purchased from another artist and post it on Instagram. Be sure to follow me!
