My Detox Journey: Part 2

The second week of my detox went pretty much like the first. (If you missed part 1 of my detox journey, you can find it here.) I continued with my morning protein shake, avoided carbs for the most part and did not eat a single bit of junk food. Oh, and, no wine.

By day 10 I was still missing coffee and starting to think about the end of the week and what behaviors I would keep from this 14 day detox journey. By day 11 I was wondering if I had actually lost any weight. By day 13, I said f*ck-it and had a cup of coffee. With creamer. And not sugar free. Not fat free either.

I completed all 14 days of the detox, and for the most part I followed all the rules.

Here is what I learned;

  1. Water is essential. You need to drink a lot of it. More than you think. Yes, you will be peeing all day. Try not to drink the bulk of your water before you go to bed, because then you will also be peeing all night.

  2. Find healthy foods you like to eat and keep them around and eat them whenever you want. Who cares if you eat Brussels sprouts everyday with dinner. If you like them and they make you happy, eat them.

  3. Try to exchange rice or pasta for a vegetable. Don’t bother with vegetables disguised as pasta. I’m talking about the kind in a box, not the kind you you spiral. They usually taste like the box. Just eat the vegetables.

  4. Forgive yourself if you go astray. One night our friend invited us to his house for dinner. It was a Sunday. He made sauce. You could smell the fresh tomatoes, garlic and basil mixed with 3 different varieties of ground meat and sausage when you walked in the door. I had it poured over angel hair pasta. It was good. I bypassed the bread and wine.

  5. Don’t avoid life. If you know you are going to eat out. Try to plan for it. Eat the balance of your day accordingly.

In the end, I lost 6 pounds. I’m not at my goal weight, but the 6 pounds is what I gained on top of what I weighed when I started not feeling so great about myself. I still see it as a win and I am definitely more motivated to keep going.

Thanks for letting me share.

My coffee is ready.
