My Goal As An Artist

My Artist Goals.jpg

A couple of weeks ago, I shared some thoughts about my most popular image.  I also mentioned, despite the popularity of Blue Water Abstract and its digression from my usual body of work, I had no intention of changing my focus.

However, it did get me thinking about exactly what I hope to achieve as an artist.

And, as is human nature, it seems to be easier to say what I’m not, as opposed to what I am.

As an artist I am not trying to make any political statements or change the world.  I am not trying to be outrageous and I am not seeking any enormous reactions.  My work isn’t huge and doesn’t command and audience.

Several years ago, I was a first place winner in an online art show on the Contemporary Artist Gallery Online website.  That honor presented me with an interview on the CAGO podcast.  You can listen to the interview here.  During the interview, I shared how I created art for me. That I liked. And not necessarily what was the “trend”.

So, as an artist, I hope my work,

  • Makes people smile

  • Reminds someone of a special place or person

  • Brings someone peace

  • Brightens someone’s day

  • Helps me pay my credit card bill

If I can do all that, then I am a success and if I haven’t achieved it yet, I’ll keep it up until I do.

I would love to learn what my artwork does for you!  I hope you share it with me!
